Jedným z najhorlivejších obdivovateľov tvorby Johanna Sebastiana Bacha bol Max Reger. Bachov odkaz si uctil najmä v organovej tvorbe a v rôznych úpravách vokálnych skladieb
barokového génia. Max Bruch bol vyhľadávaným a úspešným hudobným pedagógom. Tvorbe sa venoval skôr povedľa tejto aktivity. Dosiahol však výrazné úspechy a niektoré diela inšpirovali jeho nasledovníkov, dva Husľové koncerty patria do tejto kategórie Bruchových opusov. Jeden z najväčších magnátov opernej tvorby Gioacchino Rossini sa v roku 1829 na vrchole slávy ako operný autor definitívne odmlčal. Venoval sa vareniu a sporadickej tvorbe sakrálnej a salónnej hudby. Diela, ktoré takto vznikli sám označil za „hriechy staroby“.
