Uvedenie slovenskej národnej opery Krútňava je poctou zakladateľovi Piešťanského hudobného festivalu prof. Eugenovi Suchoňovi, pri príležitosti 70. výročia založenia tohto významného medzinárodného hudobného podujatia.
Krútňava je dramatickým a psychologickým príbehom zo Slovenska. Originálny námet hriechu a odpustenia, ktorý pozostáva zo šiestich obrazov.
Typická zápletka lásky dvoch mužov k jednej žene, vražda soka zo žiarlivosti, svadba, narodenie dieťaťa, ozývajúce sa svedomie hlavného hrdinu, ale i finálna katarzia, ktorá prináša zmierenie a odpustenie. Opera NDKE uvedie tento titul pri príležitosti 75. výročia prvého uvedenia Krútňavy v decembri 1949.
