Eccentric American art-pop band SPARKS will release its 22-nd studio album “Hippopotamus“ on the beginning of September. The release will be accompanied by a World Tour “THE HIPPOPOTAMUS TOUR 2017“ and SPARKS will be performing, as the part of this tour, in Bratislava, at Atelier Babylon, on Sunday September 10, at 8 PM!
SPARKS were formed in Los Angeles in 1971 by brothers Ron (keyboards) and Russel Mael (vocals), are described as “most consistently evolving band in the history of rock”. Known for their quirky approach to songwriting, SPARKS' music is often accompanied by intelligent, sophisticated, and acerbic lyrics, and an idiosyncratic, theatrical stage presence, typified in the contrast between Russell's animated, hyperactive frontman antics and Ron's deadpan scowling. They are also noted for Russell Mael's falsetto voice and Ron Mael's keyboard style.
Bands and performers such as Kurt Cobain, Franz Ferdinand, Morrissey, MGMT, Ramones, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Def Leppard, Faith No More, Pixies, ABBA, Paul McCartney, They Might Be Giants, have cited SPARKS as an influence.
