Stravinskij vzdal hold jeho milovanému autorovi Piotrovi Iľjičovi Čajkovskému. Sergej Prokofiev bol v mladosti známym rebelom zapájajúcim sa do avantgardných trendov.
Ako zrelý autor však ustúpil a prikláňal sa k nevšednej lyrike a poetizmu, o čom svedčí jeho rozprávkový balet Popoluška.
